Patra Jasa Supports Pertamina in Building a Research Center with a Sustainable Concept in the National Capital

June 5, 2024

The construction of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony conducted by President Joko Widodo on June 5, 2024. Nusantara Sustainability Hub will become a Research and Innovation Center that promotes the concept of sustainability.

The development of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub is the result of collaboration between PT Pertamina and the Bakrie Group, reflecting Indonesia’s efforts to build a new city that is smart, globally competitive, and the nation’s endeavor to create a new locomotive for Indonesia’s transformation based on innovation, technology, and a green economy.

Development will be carried out in stages, referring to the phases of the main research programs to be implemented, where Pertamina’s Program includes Blue and Green Energy Research, Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Research, and Sustainable Academy. Meanwhile, the program from Bakrie in collaboration with Stanford Doerr includes research on the New Capital City of Nusantara, Technology for Sustainability and Low Carbon, Sustainable Financing Mechanisms, and Food Research (blue food), as well as Bakrie’s collaboration with Stanford’s mineral X on technology innovation in the mineral supply chain to create clean energy.

The President Director of Patra Jasa, Ray SM Daulay, said, “Patra Jasa, as a Portfolio Subsidiary of PT Pertamina, is tasked with physical development in accordance with the facility needs for the implementation of Pertamina and Bakrie programs. There are four added values of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub development provided to Patra Jasa for the development of the IKN area. First is the net-zero orientation by developing buildings that use low-emission energy sources. Second is technological leadership with the development of building facilities to support the enhancement of Indonesian human resources’ skills and capabilities in research. Third is the environmental aspect, where the developed facilities are oriented towards environmental sustainability, with 20% of the land area being developed as green areas for the conservation of flora and fauna. Fourth is the commercial aspect with green architectural design and the latest technology.

The Urban Design Development (UDD) research on the Core Government Center Area (KIPP) of the IKN in 2021 stated that laboratory standards must include collaboration spaces, focus rooms, interaction areas, learning spaces, and conference rooms. This concept will be realized in the development of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub.

From the study comparison, the need for collaborative space is generally around 32% of the total space requirements, and is equivalent to the area of focused workspaces at 40%. The estimated comfortable collaborative area for workers is about 0.8 times the size of the focused workspaces, which in this program is the research space.

The collaboration space can not only be utilized by researchers but also by other academic institutions in the surrounding area, which has also been designated as an Edutown area. To sharpen the functions of research and collaboration, a showcase will be presented to display research results to the wider community.

Patra Jasa, as a Portfolio Subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), will fully support efforts to realize the Company’s vision in line with Indonesia’s commitment to advancing international-standard research and innovation by developing hub infrastructure in the National Capital.
